Smith Statement on Disaster Areas

Congressman Lamar Smith issued the following statement Wednesday after 10 counties in the 21st District were declared state disaster areas:
“Heavy rain and flooding have created a disaster situation for many Texans. The best way to address the problem is through emergency assistance.
“Disaster relief will help those who have lost so much. State assistance is already on the way. Federal assistance that may include grants for state and local governments to repair public property and low-interest loans for individuals for private property may also be available.
“Destruction like this has a devastating effect on families and property. We must act quickly to help them.”
The 21st District counties included in the state disaster declaration are Bandera, Bexar, Burnet, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Llano, Real and Williamson.
