Smith Named Guardian of Small Business

Washington, Sep 13, 2012 -

Congressman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) was recognized today by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) as a Guardian of Small Business. Smith earned the award for his strong record of supporting small business in the 112th Congress.

Congressman Smith: “Over the past 17 years, small businesses have generated 65% of the new jobs in this country. The President has tried to attribute the success of small businesses across the country to the federal government.  But we know better.  America’s economic recovery depends on job creators, not federal regulators.

“I am honored to receive this award, but I know that our work to protect small businesses from burdensome regulations and unnecessary tax hikes is not over. We need to lift the burden on small businesses and free them up to spend more, invest more, and produce more to create more jobs for American workers.”

As Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Congressman Smith sponsored and supported numerous bills to rein in regulations that burden small businesses and stifle job creation and economic growth. In the 112th Congress, the House of Representatives passed six House Judiciary Committee bills to reduce the impact of burdensome regulations on small businesses, and restore transparency and accountability to the regulatory process.
