Smith: President Reagan Devoted His Life To Freedom

Congressman Lamar Smith issued the following statement regarding the death of President Ronald Reagan:

“President Reagan devoted his life to the preservation of freedom. He believed that ‘no weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.’

“His global fight against communism is one of the most significant periods in world history. Many said this enemy of freedom could not be conquered. President Reagan’s epic leadership conquered communism.

“The Berlin Wall fell because President Reagan made it fall. When the world saw the newly liberated people of Eastern Europe speak of the freedom they craved and dreamed of for decades it was impossible not to think: How Reaganesque.

“President Reagan lived with the conviction that a country must stand for something beyond mere survival. To that end, we will always follow Ronald Reagan. He inspires us with love, hope and joy for the world`s greatest country, the United States of America.”
