Smith Votes To End Frivolous Lawsuits
Washington,
Jun 12, 2003 -
Congressman Smith issued the following statement regarding House passage of the Class Action Fairness Act:
“In recent years, state courts have been flooded with thousands of frivolous lawsuits. Lawyers, looking for the most favorable judges, conduct the equivalent of a legal shopping spree: they use loopholes so class action suits can be heard in state courts rather than federal courts.
“To describe many of the well known class action abuses as “frivolous” is an insult to frivolousness.
“The widespread abuse of class action lawsuits is unacceptable. It demands reform. The Class Action Fairness Act is a bipartisan, sensible reform that clarifies the rights of consumers and restores confidence in America’s judicial system.”
