Congressman Lamar Smith issued the following statement regarding the San Antonio Spurs winning the NBA Championship:
The NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs showed America their determination and their character. They never gave in or gave up, and that is why they are champions today.
It is fitting that David Robinson closed his storybook career as an NBA Champion. He is the heart of the Spurs. Few players represent their teams and their cities with such class and dignity. And few teammates embody sportsmanship like David and Tim Duncan.
Peter Holt, Coach Popovich, and the Spurs players gave the city of San Antonio an unforgettable season of basketball excellence that will be remembered for years. They deserve the thanks of our grateful city.
