Smith: Ruling A Victory For Competition
Mar 4, 2004
Press Release
Congressman Lamar Smith issued the following statement regarding the Washington D.C. United States Court of Appeals ruling on local phone competition:
This ruling is a victory for a competitive telephone marketplace. The Congressional intent of the 1996 Telecom Act is not in doubt: the Federal Communications Commission must provide local phone companies with federal guidelines that allow them to compete. After three Court defeats since the Act was passed, it is time for the Commission to follow the law as it was written by Congress.
Rep. Smith is Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property.
